Blocking a number

RingRx offers two ways to block a phone number.

Block at the User Level

Blocking a number at the User level lets Users control calls from unwanted numbers.  This will still allow calls from a blocked number to other Users / Extensions.  To block a number from calling an extension:

  1. Log in to the User portal here  https://portal.ringrx.com/login
  2. Select My Phone
  3. Select Blacklist
  4. Select Add New Blacklist Rule
  5. Enter the telephone number to block.  Note that US numbers will require a 1, for instance 16262831234
  6. Select the type of action you want to apply to this number (Reject Busy or Voicemail)
  7. Select Expiration time (most telemarketers recycle numbers constantly.  The expiration is to protect you from blocking a number that gets assigned to a legitimate contact at some point in the future)
  8. Save

Block at the Phone Number Level

Blocking a number at the Phone Number level will stop all calls from contacting any User or Extension at the company when they call that specific number.

  1. Log in to the User portal here  https://portal.ringrx.com/login
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Phone Numbers
  4. Select Edit on the Phone Number that you want to add the rule for
  5. Select Add New Rule

A. Prefix: This is the phone number that you are blocking, you can fill out the entire number for a specific match or part of the number for a partial match.  For example 1626283* will block all calls from any phone number that starts with 1626283.

B. Action: Reject Busy will present a busy message to the caller, Reject 503 will present a not in service message for the caller and Voice Captcha will put the caller through a captcha system if the caller fails the call is dropped.

C. Weight: Weight is the order in which rules will be executed, it is evaluated in ascending order.  You can set this to 1.

D. Reputation: Set this to None for the purpose of blocking based on the callers phone number.
